Make the best cookies this Easter or any Holiday

Spending time with family is key I think to have a great life.  Family can be friends or it can be by blood or paper.  What matters is spending time with those you love.  I am lucky to still be able to make cookies with my mom.  Easter is coming up and we got to spend some amazing quality time together.  Oh, I am in my thirties by the way.   It was a ton of work, and we are always grateful for all the time she spends each year to keep everyone eating healthy cookies instead of candy.  They can still pack on the pounds but are much better for your teeth in the long run which is certainly nice.  I really love the variety of cookies she makes and the ones made from specialty candy boxes are probably my favorite.  Your cookies may vary, but candy box cookies are our favorites because we put our favorite treats in them!

You should choose your favorite or your family’s favorite treats.  It is also fun to change them out to keep things fresh.  My mom is incredible because she has learned all of our favorites and is amazing enough to take the time to make them for each of us.  There are a lot of different kinds and I think sharing the knowledge is really good because holiday traditions can change and add in new things for different families and friends is how each year can even get a little bit better!  Although, the classics are still the best and the staple cookies won’t be beaten.  Well, that is what tradition is all about and I love it!

Now, if I am being 100% honest the gingersnap is the answer to my cookie love.  My mom does them a little differently than anyone else.  Her tastes almost like a mix between a sugar cookie and a gingerbread cookie.  They are a soft ginger cookie and taste incredible.  They are usually small in form and rather soft, to begin with, and end with a snap once they cool.  I am lucky because she makes them on Easter and Christmas and I get to enjoy them usually twice a year.

If you want to hear about a wild cookie that is classic then my mother also makes a mincemeat cookie.  I am still not entirely sure what mincemeat is and I think it is some sort of grape or raisin.  But these remind me much of a chocolate chip cookie but instead, they are filled with crazy seasonal flavors of mincemeat.  It is not an acquired taste but reminds me more of a fancy cookie or a cranberry cookie. Really it has the texture of oatmeal raisin but the kick of cranberry but with the flavor of mincemeat.  Strange they may sound, but taste good they do.

Being an American I have to admit that Sugar Cookies are usually still a favorite.  Then on top, she adds either the sweet treat of our choosing or just Hershey kisses.  They melt in the oven and it turns them into an incredible treat. These are even more fun with recce cups or snickers on them too. Use what you love and enjoy them all the more.  I love the differences that baking brings!
